This authentic mid-century maritime instrument is a Sperry Gyro-Compass Reading Glass manufactured in September 1962 by Tokyo Keiki Seizosho Co., Ltd. in Tokyo, Japan, under technical license from the Sperry Gyroscope Company. Bearing factory serial number R6008, the heavy 0.7 kg optical assembly was designed as a bridge binnacle accessory to magnify degree markings on commercial and naval gyro-compass cards. The complete vintage set includes the adjustable optical reading glass, its integrated mounting bracket, and the original custom-fit wooden storage box complete with its factory-riveted brass data plate. The optical reading glass is in excellent functional condition, featuring a clear, thick D-shaped lens entirely free of chips, cracks, or clouding. The integrated metal bracket retains its original matte black finish, and both the knurled tension knobs and lower mounting tabs pivot smoothly and lock tightly.

The original wooden storage box remains structurally solid, with both original brass rear hinges and the front swing-loop latch mechanism fully intact, complete, and functional. The box interior retains its original custom-shaped protective blocks to secure the lens assembly. The exterior surface shows authentic shipboard wear, including minor scuffs and varnish degradation consistent with age, and a missing vertical strip of wood along the upper front right edge of the box frame that creates an open slot next to the closed lid, exposing the internal adjustment thumb screw. Weight in box is 1 1/2 pound.

Guessing made early 1960s. Cool Old Magnifying Glass!! Check pictures for description and condition.
